The academy offers private one-to-one lessons in piano, violin, recorder, singing, theory and musicianship. Lessons are available for children and adults.
We pride ourselves on providing one to one lessons which are suited to the individual student. There is no one method or strategy which suits everyone and it is important that students feel able to be an integral part of their own learning process.
We like to incorporate learning to read notation with essential skills such as playing by ear, composing and improvisation. Foundational music skills, such as understanding rhythm and pitch, are also developed. Theory of music can be incorporated in the lesson but we strongly encourage all students to join in with academy sessions. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace to develop a thorough understanding of the nuts and bolts of music theory.
We have studied the principles taught by Kodaly, Suzuki, Dalcroze and others. Kodaly's approach is based on teaching, learning and understanding music through the experience of singing. There are enormous benefits with this approach. The Suzuki method focuses on learning music as you would a language through immersion. Dalcroze incorporates movement into musical study.
Examinations are available to work towards for those who wish to take them.
